What does a good store pitch look like?

One of the most common enquiries we get here at Label Worx is about playlist and store features, and what labels can do to give themselves the best chance of support on their releases. Our team is always on hand to advise on individual cases, but we felt this article from Red Bull definitely sums up the main things to think about with information directly from Deezer, Spotify and SubmitHub.

H/T Red Bull Music

Find your niche
In a competitive market it can feel as though you're fighting for listeners. Make sure you stand out and capture your niche selling point - sometimes it's more beneficial to feature on smaller playlists which represent your niche and as a result, enhance your growth with the right audience.

Make music you're proud of
Focus on the music and developing your own sound. Ignore other people's opinions for the moment and concentrate on what you want from your music.

Share your story
Add those personal touches and ask:
  • What is this song about?
  • Does it relate to anything from a wider cultural perspective?
  • Is there a story behind the track?
  • Have you got a great remix lined up for it?
Sell yourself
Help curators understand the music with as much background information as possible; they filter music based on things like mood and genre - the more detail you give, the more likely it is that it'll find a place on the right playlist.

Make some noise
Stores want to see that you're shouting about the release on all your platforms and in real life, keeping it current and up to date. Show them how this is happening:
  • Social posts and stories.
  • Physical performances of the song.
  • Lots of creative content.
Submit
With all that in mind, the final step is to submit your release to the Label Worx A&R team who will then use the information to pitch for playlist and store feature consideration. This can be done via the link here.

If you have any questions about the pitching process, please contact us here or speak to your label manager.
