We speak to Vangelis Kostoxenakis as he celebrates 1 year of TOTT.

Talk Of The Town, headed up by Vangelis Kostoxenakis has been with Label Worx for the last year. Starting as a small project by the man himself and is blossoming in to one of the undergrounds, go-to labels for obscure house and tech house records. As they celebrate their first year as a label, we speak with the boss man to find out a little more about them and why they work with Label Worx.

What's the aim of Talk of the Town, and for those who don't know the label - how would you describe it in one sentence?

Our aim is to release fresh, thinking-out-of-the-box music made for the dancefloors. We don't believe to our core in the 'big name concept', it was never our idiosyncrasy anyway to launch releases only by established names and that's why we are rising fast as a label. We are Talk of the Town!

You've just turned 1 (congratulations!) and you've released a VA to celebrate - can you tell us the story behind the release, or any of the tracks featured?

We have a rule that every 10 releases we launch a VA. This way we give a second chance to tracks that didn't go well sales-wise, but also present some hidden gems that didn't get a single release. Our 30th release fell on the same date as our birthday and what a better way to celebrate it than with two DJ sets by label boss Vangelis Kostoxenakis and good friend Piem, and our best sellers of the year.

How did you hear about Label Worx?

Label Worx was, and still is, the leader in digital distribution. It was a no-brainer for us to collaborate with them.

What does Label Worx do for you and your label?

Literally anything we ask. They are extremely professional but friendly. We see them first as friends and then as colleagues. I think this is what they do with all the labels and that's why they are so successful.

What have been the biggest problems that you have faced running a label?

Meeting the deadlines.

How important is branding and artwork to you? Does Talk of the Town follow a particular theme with every release?

Well, it's 50% of a release. You might like Coca Cola but if it was boxed in a shitty can then you might prefer Pepsi :) Our theme is the blackboard where artists get to print their motto, favourite quote or see their press shot getting trashed. We like getting trashed, we don't believe in clean cut logos and artwork, we like curls and noise - that's music anyway, it works in a dynamic way and artwork has to come along. Lately, we've done selected releases real paint jobs by Daniel Turk (Ressless). They look awesome, it's real paint on canvas anyway.

How has the industry changed in terms of running a label? How do you stay ahead of the curve?

It's changed a lot compared to the old days. You have to think ahead at least six months, have signed music for at least four, be always on the lookout for new talents and music, keep in touch with your fans, but above all: sign great music. Slowly and steadily, you'll get there.

What does Label Worx do that no other distribution company does?

Honestly can't answer that. BUT. They cover us 360 and we don't plan on changing any time soon.

How would you sum up Label Worx in one sentence?

Spot-on caring music distributors

What should we keep an eye out for from Talk of the Town over the rest of 2017?

We are looking into some really cool music coming up, so make sure to be checking us out

We are proud to welcome 'Bla Bla' to the Label Worx family.

Besides being a solid international music label of head honcho Daniel Sanchez, Bla Bla Music focusses on club nights, weekly podcasts and even a DJ/producer school. It was 8 years ago, when Bla Bla hosted its first club nights in Studio 80 in Amsterdam. These events were highly attended and were a great success, meanly because minimal techno really was booming at that moment. In 2009, Daniel Sanchez decided it was time to expand Bla Bla to an actual electronic music label.

That's why we've developed Accelerate, a new service that takes away the time-consuming yet essential aspects of running a label, and leaves you to manage the important part: the music.
