We caught up with DJ and producer Craig Knight to discuss the success and story behind 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' - his recent collaboration with Gok Wan and Kele Le Roc on OneFold Records which has hit the iTunes #1 spot and had everyone talking.

So first things first - what's the story behind 'Let me Be your Fantasy'? How did you end up working with Gok Wan and Kele Le Roc?

It's a bit crazy really, I didn't even know Gok was a DJ until I got a Instagram message from a DJ I know sharing a vid of Gok playing my 'In For The Kill Remix'. From there, I messaged Gok saying thank you not even expecting to get a reply, but he replied straight away saying it's a great track. My manager a few days later said I should message him and see if he wants to work on a track together. I was sceptical because I thought Gok would be too busy etc, but I plucked up the courage and asked him and he said yes. During the process of making the track we were offered some names to potentially work on the track and then Kele Le Roc's name popped up, and with a vocalist as good as she is how could we not try and get her on the track. Thankfully she said yes and has nailed the vocals.

The original is such an iconic track - was it an easy decision to work with such a well known vocal?

The original is a classic so there is always some doubt behind trying to bring new life but staying true to the original at the same time. Throughout my years working in music and making remixes, I've always swayed towards making remixes and edits of classic dance tracks. So for me it was a no-brainer to pick one of the biggest tracks of the 90s to get the CK & Gok treatment. It was just a case of how well we could execute it. So many people have got behind it so far and supported it heavily across radio and streaming platforms, so I think we've done a great job. To have Baby D herself supporting our track is a dream come true as well.

How has the response to this release campaign compared to other music you've put out?

I've always had a great response to music that I've put out and gained a great loyal following over the last few years with heavy radio support and from DJs all around the world too, but this release and the goals we've reached have been mind-blowing. We all like to think in our heads that we could hit the heights that this track has hit, but to actually achieve them in such a short time is overwhelming. OneFold have been amazing, so much thought has gone into this process so they deserve a special mention on making this happen to, shoutout Jay Enna, Jay (HOM) & Reece - the dream team.

Have there been any surprising names you've seen playing the new track?

There's been few to be honest, I never thought we'd get support from the likes of DJ SKT (Kiss Fm), Majestic (Kiss fm), Tempo Elektrik (Kiss Fm) Billy Da Kid (Kiss Fm) Rylan (Radio 2), Amanda Holden & Jamie Theakston (Heart Breakfast Show) - the support from all of these guys has been huge, especially Rylan and DJ SKT who have been playing it week after week

And how about the creative process? We're guessing a collab with Gok Wan wasn't something you could have predicted 12 months ago!

This track has been in the works for over 12 months now, but had you asked me this question 18 months ago I probably would have laughed it off and told you to stop talking rubbish. It's definitely an achievement that me, as well as my family, are proud of.

Technology has made collaborating remotely so easy - do you prefer this method of working over sitting in the same studio together?

I would have preferred to have sat in the studio together but working remotely is just as easy. Gok is a perfectionist so there were a lot of ideas being thrown back and forth from the both of us to get to where we're at today with the track. It's not been an easy process by all means with how much work has gone into this track, but if it was meant to be easy everyone would be doing it.

If you could collab with anyone else, who would it be?

My dream collab would definitely be Calvin Harris - I mean, he is the reason why I started the musical journey that I'm on. Seeing him perform in 2007 at T4 On The Beach inspired me to start being a DJ and then leading into producing.

Another person would be James Hype. I've followed his career for a very long time now and he literally started from the bottom and grafted his way to the top, it's been an inspiring journey to follow. Not to forget he's a wizard on the decks and the music he makes is class. On a personal level he's helped me alot over the years with tips on production and how to help push myself too, so I got a lot of love for James.

And finally - what's next? How do you follow-up a huge release like 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy'?

The only way to follow up with a huge release is to follow it up with something bigger and be more creative. Myself and Gok are due to release a follow up to 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' so hopefully we will be able to deliver that in the future. Craig Knight as an artist will be pushing out solo projects too with other collabs in the pipeline, so there's definitely a lot of music to be heard from myself in the future. Keep ya eyes peeled.
