We recently asked you what you wanted to hear about from Label Worx and the overwhelming majority told us that Promotion & Marketing is your main priority - and rightly so.
In our Promotion & Marketing series, we'll be looking at the best ways to promote your music, your brand and your artists, and give your releases the best chance of success.
Preparation is key, so to begin we've put together a Release Day Checklist that will provide a strong foundation for any successful release campaign.
Have A Plan
Without a strategy driving the campaign, very few releases are successful.
Sketch out a timeline of key milestones leading up to release day, and for the weeks following. When does pre-sale go live? When do you send out promos?
Write it all down and tick each task off as you go - you can then look back and see what worked and what didn't, and use that information to shape your next campaign.
One thing's for certain: you're going to need more than a square cover art image to promote your release.
Consider videos and artwork in different formats for Instagram Stories, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube etc.
Be creative: how can you get people's attention with your content? Think about the visual aspect as well as the music.
Use a platform like Soundplate or Found.ee to create a smart link landing page for your release.
Fans can pre-save and pre-order via this link before release day, or stream and purchase from their preferred platform once the release is available.
Using one link across all your marketing keeps things simple and allows you to easily track data and better understand your audience.
DJ Support, Radio & Playlists
Having your release played by key tastemakers is a huge boost to your campaign - start building up a promo list of DJs who are likely to support your music.
A radio play is still a coveted achievement - get to know the shows that play your style of music and work out how to get your music into the hands of their producer.
For streaming success, playlist support is crucial. Build and grow your own playlist, then build contacts with other curators who you can support and swap track placements with.
Store Feature Pitch
Securing a feature on a store can have a huge impact on sales. This could be a banner, a playlist inclusion or even a review depending on the DSP.
To be considered for a store feature, you must complete the Feature Submissions Form at least 4 weeks before the release date.
Store features are awarded to releases which stand out musically and have a great campaign behind them - so give as much detail as possible when submitting your pitch.
Probably the most important part of any release campaign - if you're not excited about it, why should anyone else be?!
Get behind the release in any way you can and remember that without you driving the campaign, nothing will happen.
It's not easy to promote a release, but with a solid plan and plenty of determination, we promise you it's worth the effort :)
