10 Ways To Kill It in 2018

10 Ways To Kill It in 2018

New year, new start: an opportunity to implement the many changes that are going to transform you into a fitter, happier, more productive person. At least that's what you tell yourself for the first month, before falling back into the same old habits that got you to this point of self-reflection in the first place. For the more motivated among us, however, these changes can have a lasting positive effect that completely transforms you into a shadow of your former self. The same theory can be applied to your label. The year stretching out ahead of you is a blank canvas to really make a name for yourself in the industry, as long as you know where to focus your attention. So with that in mind, here at Label Worx we've put together a handy guide for best label practices for 2018. Or in far less wordy terms, here are our 10 Ways to Kill It in 2018. 01. Plan ahead We cannot overemphasize the importance on this one, which is why it's first on our list. The biggest single thing that hampers a label's success - after the quality of the music itself - is not giving yourself enough time to properly set up your releases. Why spend a year negotiating, tweaking and perfecting your label's big release of the year only to fire it out a couple of week's after it's been delivered? Always have the next three months worth of releases planned out, giving yourself, artists, PRs and anyone else involved enough space to really get behind the releases. That's not to say that if someone drops a shit hot record in your lap you can't move things around to accommodate it, but setting a schedule - however loose - will pay dividends. 02. Keep It Consistent This is especially important for brand new labels. The industry is now flooded with so many labels, that to establish yourself properly and get yourself noticed you need to employ a certain level of consistency in the music you release. This is the surest way of building a loyal fanbase who will hopefully come back every time you release a record. That's not to say you have to put out half a dozen carbon-copies of the first record in the same year, but establishing yourself with a certain sound, or within a particular niche gives you an identity, which can be invaluable. Even established labels that release varied music have some consistent thread running through their catalogue, so for labels breaking into the market tt's an absolute must. 03. Now, Streaming It's now 2018, and any semblance of an argument against getting on board with streaming has disintegrated. Embrace it even more than ever: your audience is almost certainly using streams as their main method of listening to music. The vast majority of Beatport, Traxsource downloads come from DJs, and if you just relied on them for your music sales, you would be in trouble very quickly. And make sure you

Label Worx 2017 Roundup

Label Worx 2017 Roundup

It's been yet another landmark year in the evolution of Label Worx. So that was 2017: a year that will no doubt be remembered for a variety of different reasons. Here at Label Worx however, we're already celebrating a vintage year. Here are just some of the highlights that made 2017 one for the scrapbook. After sending out our very first promo back in 2007, this year we celebrated our 10th anniversary. During that time we've worked with more than 10,000 labels from 115 countries, distributed 1.3 million tracks and paid out $27 million, making us one of the biggest sources of revenue for independent records labels around the world. We're incredibly proud of how Label Worx has grown over the last decade, to celebrate we threw an epic knees up with Amine Edge & DANCE, Josh Butler, D. Ramirez, DJ SKT, Tuff London, Mindek and GAWP at DJ Mag's Work Bar. Big up to everyone who made it down, and the thousands more that streamed the sets online. In the 10 years that we've been in operation, the music industry has changed almost out of all recognition, so we've always been aware that our services need to move with the times and offer new innovations in order to keep our clients at the forefront of the game. One such innovation is Accelerate: a new service that removes the time-consuming yet essential aspects of running a label, leaving you to manage the important part: the music. Accelerate has been an increasingly popular service with our clients, and we've loved being able to put our knowledge and experience to good use with a host of fantastic labels and projects. Another recently launched innovation is our new Daily Sales & Streams reporting tool. Representing a huge step forward in our Daily Sales reporting platform, it now offers full insights into labels streaming numbers, alongside your downloads, with data currently collected from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Google Play. With streaming playing an ever-increasingly important role in the strategy and subsequent success of record labels, these stats allow clients to manage their labels and promotions with even greater detail and efficiency. In a year packed full of innovation, one of the things we're most excited about for 2018 is the full launch of Social Worx, which is currently in beta. Developed specifically with artists and record labels in mind, Social Worx is a bespoke piece of cloud-based software that allows you to keep tabs on your social networks. From organic page growth to content discovery and implementation, Social Worx aims to make social media management as easy and effective as possible, all from one easy to use platform. Outside of Label Worx-specific developments, there was further good news this year when our co-founder and CEO Matt Abbott was re-elected to the board of the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM), the not-for-profit trade association created to represent the common interests of those companies and individuals involved in the dance music industry. Matt will serve the second of his two-year terms until 2019 and is 'looking forward to facing a number of challenges facing the industry over the coming months'. Finally, 2017 was the year we announced arguably the biggest development in the evolution of Label Worx: our new venture Spektrum Talent. Co-founded by Matt Abbott and York Artist Management's Phil York, Spektrum Talent will be a new breed of booking and management agency, handling every aspect of an artists career from the building blocks of their music, brand and social media to breaking new global markets and exposing them to new fans around the world. Already signed to Spektrum are a number of cutting-edge electronic artists including DJ S.K.T (Kiss FM, Defected), Gaist (Elevate, IAMT), GAWP (Dirtybird, This Ain't Bristol), Jerome Isma-ae (Jee Productions, Suara), Mindek (Stashed, Whartone), Rene Amesz (Toolroom, Suara) and Son Of 8 (Armada Deep, SPRS), with Spektrum looking to expand its roster significantly in 2018. It's been a phenomenal year at Label Worx, but none of it would be possible without you: clients who trust us with the music you love, and in 2017 alone we've been fortunate enough to work with an increasingly diverse selection of world-class labels, including elrow Music, Deeperfect, Desolat, Bla Bla, Brock Wild and D-Vine Sounds. Label Worx would literally be nothing without your continuing support, and for that we'd like to say a huge thank you. We genuinely love being able to work with such passionate people and such incredible music on a daily basis, and for that we are truly grateful. Here's to an even better 2018! The Label Worx Team x

We are proud to welcome 'Bla Bla' to the Label Worx family.

Label News   /   October 3rd, 2017

We are proud to welcome 'Bla Bla' to the Label Worx family.

Besides being a solid international music label of head honcho Daniel Sanchez, Bla Bla Music focusses on club nights, weekly podcasts and even a DJ/producer school. It was 8 years ago, when Bla Bla hosted its first club nights in Studio 80 in Amsterdam. These events were highly attended and were a great success, meanly because minimal techno really was booming at that moment. In 2009, Daniel Sanchez decided it was time to expand Bla Bla to an actual electronic music label.
