How Does Facebook & Instagram Use My Content
Posted By : Alex Powell
|
Posted Date : September 6th, 2018
We have entered into a deal with Facebook to work with, develop and implement a rights management and royalty payment/reporting system.

We are currently delivering all content to Facebooks Audio Library. The Audio Library is the central hub which Facebook will be exploring many different ways to bring music to the Facebook community. So far these include;

Share Videos with Music on Facebook
Facebook is working to enable people around the world to include music in their videos on Facebook, opening up more options for creativity and sharing memories with friends and family. Facebook is testing this in several markets currently.

Lip Sync Live

Facebook is starting to roll out Lip Sync Live, which lets you lip sync to songs. To try it out, choose the Lip Sync Live option when starting your Live video. After selecting a song from the song list, you can also add a description and customise your video with masks or a background. When broadcasting with Lip Sync Live, friends will see the artist and song highlighted on the video and can tap to follow the artist on Facebook.

Instagram Music Stories
Similar to adding emojis/GIFs, users will now have the option to add music by tapping on the sticker icon - searching/browsing for a song, selecting the best segment to match their story - and posting. When friends watch the story, they'll hear the clip the user chose playing over their photo or video. They'll also see a sticker with the song title and artist name.

IMPORTANT
Facebook are rolling out these features out over a period of time - starting with iOS, with Android following. Additionally, they will be adding more songs on a regular basis and, as such, you may not see your titles included right now. Facebook has assured us that they are working hard to activate Audio Library feeds and match recordings with publishing data, prioritising top performing content. There is no defined timeline, however, more content will be made available in the near future as this product is rolled out further.

YouTube have paid the music business $1.8bn in ad money over the past 12 months.

Industry News   /   November 9th, 2018

YouTube have paid the music business $1.8bn in ad money over the past 12 months.

YouTube has claimed that it paid out over $1.8bn to music rights-holders in the 12 months to the end of September this year, in advertising revenues alone. The figure is revealed in Google's new 'How Google Fights Piracy' report, in which it's also claimed that YouTube has paid out more than $6bn to the music industry to date - $3bn of which has come from the monetized use of music in videos via Content ID. These numbers get extra interesting when we turn back the clock a little bit - and, naturally, when we also look into how they compare to Spotify's industry payouts. YouTube's $1.8bn claim suggests that it's been paying out circa $150m per month to the music business in ad money over the past year.

SoundCloud announce direct streaming to Traktor, Serato and more.

Industry News   /   October 23rd, 2018

SoundCloud announce direct streaming to Traktor, Serato and more.

SoundCloud have announced a partnership with Native Instruments, Serato, Hercules, Mixvibes and DEX3, revealing that you can now stream SoundCloud's catalogue directly into the DJing software. SoundCloud are offering high-quality AAC 256kbps streaming for anyone who has a SoundCloud Go+ subscription. 'Until recently, digital workflows for DJs were limited to downloads and physical media, but streaming workflows are the future,' said Kerry Trainor, Chief Executive Officer, SoundCloud. Details of how the streaming infrastructure will actually work are yet to be announced - we assume the files will cache to avoid any dropouts. It will be interesting to see how SoundCloud integrate the 190m tracks on its platform into DJ software GUI. Whether or not creators and artists will be notified when and where their music is being streamed, and if the analytics will reflect it, is another bit question. DJ Mag predicted this earlier this year with our 'Streaming is Coming to the Booth' feature, but what's interesting here is that rekordbox dj and Pioneer DJ are not on the list of collaborators. Could they be working on their own bespoke streaming service that bridges hardware and software? As the consumer streaming wars step up among Spotify, TiDAL, Apple Music et al, it seems the DJ streaming wars are only just beginning.

What will Brexit mean for DJs?

Artist News   /   October 22nd, 2018

What will Brexit mean for DJs?

At 11 pm on the 29th March next year, the Article 50 clock runs out and the UK will leave the European Union (EU). A quick recap for those of you who haven't been paying attention: in 1973, the UK joined the European Economic Community, which would later become the EU. It was a grouping of European countries, initially set up after the horrors of World War II as an attempt to pool resources, promote trade and maintain peace between the member states. In June 2016, the UK voted to leave the EU. In the two years since then, the UK government has not managed to put together a comprehensive and workable Brexit deal, leaving both the details and the bigger picture for industries in post-Brexit UK uncertain. This is certainly true for the music industry in general and dance music in particular, where the impact of Brexit on DJs and performers currently making a considerable part of their living in Europe is unclear. Many of the bigger DJs and acts also have production staff, lighting crews, sound engineers, road crews, drivers, agents, artist liaisons, promoters and managers, all of whom will be affected by Brexit.

Label Worx at ADE 2018

It's been a landmark year so far for Label Worx, Spektrum Talent and Lime Blue. With this year's ADE just around the corner, and with thousands of music industry professionals poised to infiltrate every canal-crossed corner of Amsterdam once again, here at Label Worx we wanted to take this opportunity to round up a few highlights from the year to date, as well as give anyone interested in finding out more about our services an opportunity to meet up for a chat. On the Label Worx side, the growth of our Accelerate service has been remarkable, with an ever-growing number of labels trusting our team to manage their labels day-to-day operations, looking after everything from release scheduling to playlist pitching. Recent additions include No Face, No Art, FARMACY & Freakin' 909/303, while Circus Recordings, Viper Recordings, Runemark, Woah Dad & Comeme are new Royalty Worx Accelerate clients. Our distribution too has gone from strength to strength: we've now worked with over 10,000 labels and paid out over $35m in royalties across the board, one of the highest in the industry. Spektrum Talent continues to grow at an extraordinary rate, with further expansion planned after ADE. 2018 has seen us book and promote sold-out debut US tours for several of our artists, significantly increasing their global profile. We now represent Sam Divine, GAWP, Rene Amesz and more world-class talents, handling all logistical and promotional aspects for the artist and leaving them in a creative frame of mind to further develop their sound and brand. Finally, our latest initiative, Lime Blue, focuses on one of the least understood - but arguably most lucrative - aspects of music accounting: neighbouring rights. Lime Blue Music specializes in the worldwide management, collection and distribution of neighbouring rights, one of the fastest growing revenue streams in music. So if your recordings have been broadcast on radio, TV, in a public place such as a bar or restaurant, or on new media somewhere in the world, then there is revenue waiting for you, and we can help you get it. Clients include Fedde Le Grand, Tritonal, Fatman Scoop, Chillhop Music, Tommie Sunshine and Glasgow Underground, all of whom we have helped explore and exploit a previously untapped revenue stream. Business aside, we're also involved in a number of parties at ADE 2018, chief among them the Farris Wheel X Stashed Showcase. With Gene Farris's legendary Farris Wheel label celebrating its 20 year anniversary in 2018, they've teamed up with DJ SKT's cutting-edge Stashed Music, so if you're into quality house music, we highly recommend making an appearance! If you would be interested in discussing whether any of our services could help your label evolve to the next level, we'd love to hear from you.

'A momentous day' as US senate passes Music Modernization Act.

Industry News   /   September 26th, 2018

'A momentous day' as US senate passes Music Modernization Act.

The passing of the bipartisan bill, which was co-sponsored by more than 80 Senators, sets into motion an overhaul of music licensing legislation in the US. The comprehensive bill includes the CLASSICS Act, legislation that guarantees artists and labels who recorded music before 1972 a federal right to be paid for those recordings when played by digital radio outlets. The Senate-passed bill now awaits reconsideration by the House and signature by the President. Today's news follows the unanimous passing of the bill in the US House of Representatives in April. NMPA President and CEO David Israelite said: 'Today is a momentous day for songwriters, artists, composers, producers, engineers and the entire industry that revolves around them. The Senate vote marks a true step forward towards fairness for the people at the heart of music who have long been undervalued due to outdated laws. 'This was a long and complex process but ultimately the music industry has come out stronger and more united than ever. We commend Senators Orrin Hatch, Lamar Alexander, Chuck Grassley and Senate Leadership for swiftly moving this bill to the floor. Now we anxiously await the House's final approval of the MMA and seeing it signed into law.' Mitch Glazier, President, Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said: 'As legendary band the Grateful Dead once said in an iconic pre-1972 song, 'what a long strange trip it's been.' It's been an epic odyssey, and we're thrilled to almost be at our destination.
