How Clean Is Your Beatport?

Beatport recently announced that they will begin to delete all releases, released before January 2019, that haven't sold any units since the release date. This is intended to become a yearly occurrence from Beatport. This is not new, stores like Juno and Traxsource have been doing this for years. So even if you like it or not, it is something everyone in the music industry is going to have to get used to very soon.

We thought this is a great opportunity for labels to review their labels and do some good old-fashioned housekeeping.

Here are our top tips to prepare for the Beatport clean-up and use it as a positive to enhance your label not only on Beatport but across all platforms.

Make sure your music is always backed up - The more organised and prepared you are the easier it is, best to be safe than sorry.

Take a look at your profile on the download stores, if this is not a regular task that you do, you should really start! Make sure you always know what your best-selling tracks are and also your underperforming tracks. This will give a great insight into what works for your label and what doesn't. You can then use this knowledge to help you when making those all-important A&R decisions on what to sign for your label.

We know a lot of people don't want to part with their tracks, as when you signed it you had good intentions and believed in the record, but if it has no sales it was maybe not represented properly. This is another opportunity to review your marketing campaigns and how you are promoting the release externally to drive traffic to the release.

Maybe the track was ahead of its time and didn't quite resonate, so why not look at getting a fresh remix of the track and then include the original back on as a b-side to the release.

Also, as hard as it can be to admit sometimes, but maybe the track just wasn't that good and removing it completely from your label repertoire wouldn't be a bad thing as it's possibly not representing your label in the best light.

In conclusion, this is the way forward and the future for Beatport and other stores, so make sure you head over to your profile today and get using our tips to keep on top of your label.

Is it a good time for labels to release new music?

Industry News   /   April 14th, 2020

Is it a good time for labels to release new music?

With the Coronavirus lockdown in place around the world, many artists and labels are looking at release schedules and wondering whether to push back or bring forward their big releases. Sure, your standard promotional campaign might not be possible right now, but it doesn't mean you should sit on records indefinitely - this could also be a great opportunity to try something new; with an increase in captive audiences and changes to listener habits, this forward-thinking approach is definitely one which should be considered.
